Creating outdoor monuments for public buildings and historical sites is another aspect of being a sculptor.
One percent for the arts, memorials, and anniversaries of special events are all reasons to commission a sculptor to honor the occasion, many times larger than life. It is an opportunity to design an original concept that enhances the location and draws interest to the site as well as expressing the meaning of the event figuratively or abstractly. Starting with a 24-inch scale model in clay, the client and I many times have worked together to perfect the design. When approved the small scale model is enlarged to the desired size refined in clay and then cast in bronze or stainless steel.
